The black pearl colored blades glistening in the sun were stark contrasts to the pal white ghostly skin of their masters in training. The rare black metal, kurokane, used to forge the swords came from distant lands known only to the blacksmiths skilled enough to be part of the Tsukurokane, the Empress’ special guild of craftsmen…..

Illustrations for “The Cards”

I’ve added an Illustrations page. There you will find the first two concept drawings illustrated by Maren Marmulla for, “The Cards.” She created this after a couple of short conversations conducted while I was commissioning her talents. She amazed me with her ability to adopt my words into visual brillance. Maren’s enthusiasm was very flattering–we had not even come to an agreement prior to her producing these for me.

Writing “The Cards”

I am not a writer by any means. I am a story creator. I have a very deep well full of thought provoking fantasies, and I often drop my bucket into that well, pulling out complete stories at my leisure. I’ve tried to form those stories into meaningful prose, but alas, my efforts have ended in failure for one reason or another.

“The Cards” happens to be a relatively new story for me. An urge to create a story based on children and playing cards has plagued me for five years, after I seeing an artist’s rendition of a magical deck of cards flying from a child’s hands. For some reason, this depiction seized my creative motivation, but I was able to formulate a storyline for this concept until eighteen months ago.

When the storyline hit me, it was like the spark of life that became the universe; ideas instantaneously exploded like the big bang and viola! “The Cards” was born. By the end of the week, I had, what I considered, a full fledged storyline.

I wrote, well, I typed words in the form of a script (remember, I’m not a writer) the first web comic in one night. At the time of “The Cards” inception, my company, since disbanded, was targeting web comics as the media of choice to present our stories to the world. We were intent on publishing and winning a DC Comics web comic competition promoted via DC’s Zuda.com. We had entered one of our other stories, “World of Chi”, which ended up in fourth place, leaving my competitive juices unsatisfied, and while the illustrations were outstanding, the writing was… less than desirable. My fault since I was the writer.

Who is Lucain Darke

Hello all. I’m not one to Blog. In fact, many of my friends believe I am Internet ignorant. This is incredibly ironic since I’m a Senior Network Engineer by day (by night I slave over my creative inspirations) and I’ve been in the IT industry for… awhile (I don’t want to make myself sound too old). So please excuse anyetiquette follies.

On to the subject: Who is Lucian Darke? He is I, and I am him. Lucian is my alter ego. The person I become when my creative side takes over. He is responsible for the stories I create. Through Lucian, I am able to become fully immersed in the worlds I’m constructing. He establishes the tunnel and seals off reality, leaving me surrounded by my stories. He transforms my mind into each of the characters I write. He allows me to experience the magnitude of every minute detail for the worlds I imagine. Without him, I live and have happiness, but with him, I am alive.

Hats off to my savior!

I think I’ll use this blog to post writings of stories that plague me but I don’t have time to bring to full life. This blog will serve as my sounding board for all things Lucian Darke. I hope you’ll enjoy them, but ignore any grammatical/editing errors. I don’t have much time to for revisions. I reserve revision and further development for a time when life permits.
